
Americans with Disabilities Act Overview
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA is a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Title II of the ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in services, programs and activities provided by state and local government entities. DelDOT has a responsibility to ensure that its programs, services, activities and construction projects comply fully with the provisions of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (Title II ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504). DelDOT understands and is committed to providing accessibility for all users, customers, and beneficiaries of our programs, activities and public services, including persons with disabilities.
DelDOT endeavors to comply with the ADA through implementation of accessibility technical requirements described in the "Standards for Accessible Design" (issued as the "ADA Accessibility Guidelines - ADAAG") enforced by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Transportation. DelDOT has adopted many of the features described in the federal accessibility standards in the Department's Design Standards.
DelDOT also offers and provides auxiliary aids (sign language interpreters, readers, Braille, large print text) upon request, to individuals participating in its programs or activities that have disabilities.
