Chesapeake City Road Bridge (BR 1-366)

Project Limits:

823 feet east and west of the bridge

Project Need

The structure consists of concrete encased steel beams with significant spalling and loss of section. The bridge is currently load posted and it has a sufficiency rating of 36.3. The bridge is structurally deficient and was selected by the Pontis Bridge Management System for work.

Project Overview:

Replace the deteriorated structure with precast prestressed concrete box beams on Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil-Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS). Riprap will be placed into the streambed to protect the proposed foundations from future scour. Additional work will include the installation of guardrail and the reconstruction of the approach roadway.

Construction work to be completed Summer/Fall 2012.
