The Georgetown Area
In June 2008, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) agreed with DelDOT's recommendation to divide the US 113 North/South Study into four (4) geographic areas rather than three (3). Since the start of the project, the three geographic areas had been the Milford Area, the Ellendale Area and the Georgetown South Area.
Environmental Assessment (EA) was pusblished on March 27, 2012. View the Georgetown EA Make a Comment About the EA The Georgetown South Area was divided into the Georgetown Area and the Millsboro-South Area. This decision allows DelDOT to complete the necessary environmental documentation in a more efficient and timely manner. Environmental studies are required by FHWA as part of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). NEPA ensures that proper study of potential human, cultural, and natural environmental impacts is conducted for each alternative under consideration. The studies describe the impact of the proposed US 113 alternatives, as well as ways to minimize and mitigate negative environmental impacts. The current status of activities in each of the four areas is summarized below: Ellendale Area The Ellendale Area Environmental Assessment (EA) was approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on September 28, 2010 with a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on the natural and human environment. The approved EA contains the environmental analysis of the selected On-alignment Alternative. The issuance of a FONSI by FHWA concludes the environmental process for the Ellendale Area. Elements of the On-Alignment Alternative will transition through the design process as funding becomes available. Learn more about the Ellendale Area. Georgetown Area The Georgetown Area Environmental Assessment (EA) was published on March 27, 2012 for public review and comments. The comment period for the EA will run through April 26, 2012. The EA contains the environmental analysis of the Refined On-Alignment Recommended Preferred Alternative that DelDOT announced in June 2007. Learn more about the Georgetown Area. Millsboro-South Area A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) is being prepared to document the analysis of the No-build, On-alignment, and Eastern and Western Bypass Alternatives. It is anticipated that the DEIS containing DelDOT's Recommended Preferred Alternative will be available in late 2012 or early 2013. Learn more about the Millsboro-South Area. Milford Area As of July 1, 2007, the General Assembly removed funding for the Milford and Lincoln portion of the US 113 North/South Study and requested that DelDOT work to achieve consensus on an alignment. After further analysis and consultation with local leaders, Secretary Wicks informed the General Assembly on January 23, 2008 that "there is no community consensus for a compromise alternative."
